Pour the ingredients directly into an ice-filled glass. Stir well, making sure the Advocaat is mixed in well.

This recipe is taken from Harry Craddocks, The Savoy Cocktail Book, without going into the details he refers to this drink in a rather scathing manner. Harry's recipe was different to what is known as the Snowball today. This version of the Snowball was at its heights of popularity in the late 1960's. So popular, that a battery-powered swizzle stick was created just for this drink. A different version of the Snowball was created for the Earl of Northesk, the famous English bobsleigh champion. It contained gin, creme de violette, white creme de menthe, anisette and sweet cream - not at all the same cocktail!
