Description

Description:

Cargo Cult Spiced Rum is a blend of rums from Papua New Guinea and Fiji in the South Pacific, crafted in limited quantities in Australia by the Small Batch Spirit Company and infused with natural flavours and spices. Unlike a many other spiced rums, John Frum's Cargo Cult distinguishes itself by having no added sugar. Adding sugar to a spiced rum is a way for most to mask imperfections or the harshness of the spirit, but refraining from adding sugar allows the inherent quality of the rum to shine through in mixed drinks creating a much more balanced flavour. Aromas of ginger, cardamom and clove can be found in the spicy nose. On the palate, cinnamon, citrus and ginger flavours compliment the rum without the excessive sweetness you can too often expect in a rum like this. The name John Frum refers to a messianic figure found in the cargo cults of the South Pacific islands. During WWII, the US military established bases on these islands, bringing with them cargo which revolutionised the lives of the native islanders. John was a popular name among the US soldiers and they would probably have introduced themselves as "John from America". When the military departed, some islanders took the events to be a miracle and began building effigies of aircraft and makeshift airstrips awaiting the return of their messiah "John Frum" and his generous bounty. They still await his return...
