Description

Description:

Drawn from one of Alsace’s most established estates, this cuvee represents a late harvest style, where grapes are picked well beyond normal ripeness to concentrate both flavour and sugar. Domaines Schlumberger is known for hillside vineyards around Guebwiller, with a strong focus on terroir, and this wine reflects that through a combination of intensity and control rather than simple richness. The style naturally leans towards generosity, but what stands out here is how that richness is shaped rather than pushed. There is a sense of density from the outset, though it does not feel heavy, as the wine carries a line of freshness that keeps everything in place. Late harvest Gewurztraminer often risks becoming overly sweet, but here the balance is more measured.

As it opens, the aromatic profile feels expansive rather than sharp, with layers building gradually and settling into each other, giving a more rounded and continuous impression. The exotic and floral elements are part of a wider whole rather than appearing in isolation. Through the palate, the wine moves with a slow, steady progression, where sweetness, texture, and a slight underlying bitterness stay closely aligned, preventing the wine from becoming soft or loose. That gentle bitterness plays an important role, giving definition and length to the finish. The texture is full and silky, with a natural weight that is carried smoothly, supported by enough acidity to keep the wine lifted rather than dense. Overall, this is a classic late harvest Gewurztraminer, showing richness and aromatic depth, but held together by freshness and structure, giving a wine that feels complete rather than overwhelming.
