Magnum, 1.5 litre bottle. The 2016 vintage of Pieve Santa Restituta by Gaja has a deep and glowing garnet red colour. It hails from Brunello di Montalcino in Tuscany. It's crafted from a blend of grapes from two top vineyards, Sugarille and Rennina, together with grapes from sites in the town of Torrenieri, located in the north east of the region.
2016 was an amazing year, producing a brilliant vintage with grapes reaching perfect levels of ripeness and balance. After ageing for 24 months in oak barrels, the wine is then blended and aged for a further six months in concrete tanks.
On the nose, it is refreshing and open, with enticing notes of black cherry, leather and hints of white pepper and liquorice. Silky, structured and complex on the palate, with great length. The palate is pure and balanced, with bright acidity and pinpoint precision to the finish. Even in youth, this wine is hard to resist, as it has much structure and depth, that will only develop further with age.
This wine is definiately one for the cellar, but if you can't resist and decide to pull the cork now, then it won't disappoint. Simply put...it's delicious. It will age gracefully between now and 2035.
This magnum bottle comes presented in a wood box.
