The most heavily peated of the Togouchi range, though decidedly more reserved than the peat monsters of Islay, which do not appeal as much to Japanese tastes. Togouchi 12 Year Old Blended Whisky is rich, sweet and fruity on the nose held together with some moderate peat smoke. Orchard fruits and citrus on the palate, with spiced pastries underpinned by peat smoke. A moderately long sweet finish. Togouchi whiskies are unlike many Japanese whiskies in that they are not initially produced in Japan, but instead "naturalised" to become Japanese. The maturation takes place uniquely in an underground tunnel, built for a railway but never completed. The tunnel maintains a constant temperature and humidity ideal for maturation.
