Arran 17 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is a mature island expression that reflects the distillery's focus on clarity of spirit and careful cask selection. Produced at Lochranza Distillery, this release was part of a limited series that bridged the gap between the earlier 16 Year Old and the eventual 18 Year Old core expression. It is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and sherry casks, with a relatively restrained use of oak to allow the distillery character to remain clearly defined.
As a discontinued bottling, the 17 Year Old has become increasingly sought after, particularly by those following the evolution of Arran's core range. The production approach reflects the distillery's broader philosophy - non-chill filtration, natural colour, and a focus on transparency in maturation. Rather than relying heavily on cask influence, the whisky is designed to showcase how the spirit develops over time, with a balance between fruit, malt, and oak shaped by extended ageing rather than aggressive finishing.
