Arran The Bothy is a limited edition expression, bottled at cask strength, matured in ex-bourbon casks before finishing for 18 months in small Quarter Casks. Once commonly found in the 18th and 19th centuries for ease of transportation, the Quarter Cask is rarely seen today, yet its smaller size creates more contact between whisky and oak and results in a faster and more intense maturation. The Bothy proudly brings back the Quarter Cask tradition. Arran The Bothy is burnished gold in colour, with Arran's signature citrus notes on the nose, complimented by the vanilla and cinnamon spice aromas of the American oak Quarter Casks. Fresh, vibrant and sweet on the palate, honey with exotic pineapple and a slight spicy chili heat. A splash of water brings out some orchard fruit notes. As the finish lingers, floral aromas develop back into that hallmark citrus. The Bothy is bottled at cask strength without chill filtration or artificial colouring for the purest form of whisky possible. This 2nd edition has been released as a limited edition of 12,000 bottles worldwide. A feature almost exclusive to Scotland, the bothies this whisky takes its name from are small cottages or shelters with basic facilities traditionally used by estate workers, but often left unlocked for passing travellers to seek respite from the elements.
