Description

Description:

Part of the Belvedere Single Estate Rye series, this expression represents a deliberate shift away from neutral vodka towards a more terroir-driven style. Produced in Poland, it is made exclusively from Dankowskie Diamond rye grown in a specific western region known as Smogory Forest, where climate and soil conditions are intended to influence flavour. The concept behind the range is to demonstrate that vodka can reflect origin in a similar way to wine or whisky. In this case, the colder climate, forest surroundings, and agricultural conditions of the Smogory region contribute to a more robust and savoury profile compared to other Belvedere expressions.

Production follows Polish vodka regulations, meaning no additives are permitted. The rye is fermented and distilled using a multi-stage process, achieving high purity while retaining grain character. Unlike highly neutral vodkas, the distillation is calibrated to preserve flavour compounds derived from the rye, rather than removing them entirely. Filtration is controlled rather than excessive, allowing the spirit to maintain texture and weight. The result is a vodka that is intentionally more expressive, with a noticeable structure and depth compared to standard commercial styles.

The "single estate" designation refers not only to the grain source but also to the idea of isolating environmental influence. Compared to its counterpart from a lake region (Lake Bartezek), Smogory Forest is designed to be the more intense and full-bodied expression, with greater emphasis on spice, grain, and savoury notes. Overall, the style moves away from neutrality and towards a more character-driven vodka, highlighting raw material and origin as central elements of production.

Tasting Notes
Nose:
Pronounced and slightly savoury, with toasted rye bread, light caramel, and a faint mineral or sea air note. Subtle hints of pepper and herbal freshness appear beneath.

Palate:
Rich and rounded, with flavours of cereal, salted caramel, and a touch of honey. White pepper and gentle spice develop mid palate, supported by a fuller texture than typical vodka.

Finish:
Long and balanced, with lingering notes of baked bread, light saltiness, and soft spice. A subtle sweet and savoury contrast remains, giving a structured and persistent finish.
