Black Bottle is a whisky with history, first blended in 1879 by Gordon Graham & Co. The blend has changed several times over the years, but this latest incarnation returns to its roots and remains faithful to the original recipe Gordon Graham created. Where the previous recipe was heavily Islay centric, with the powerful peat and smoke that entailed, Master Blender Ian MacMillan has chosen to bring a richer flavour profile to the new expression, retaining Bunnahabhain as the only Islay single malt in the blend lending its lightly peated character. A complex and multi-faceted blend, managing to retain a little of the smokiness of the Islay style, but simultaneously bringing syrupy sweet notes, a touch of spiciness and rich malted grain. A whisky to savour and contemplate.
