Description

Description:

Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is a distinctive Islay single malt that stands apart from many of its island neighbours for its unpeated or lightly peated style. Founded in 1881 on the remote northeastern coast of Islay, Bunnahabhain has long been known for producing maritime influenced whiskies that emphasize richness and sherry character over heavy smoke. The 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled at 46.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour, preserving its full texture and flavour integrity.

Unlike the intensely smoky malts often associated with Islay, Bunnahabhain 12 delivers coastal freshness layered with dried fruit sweetness and nutty depth. Its proximity to the sea lends a subtle salinity, while the sherry cask influence adds complexity and warmth. The result is a balanced, approachable yet characterful single malt that has become a benchmark for the distillery.

Tasting Notes
Appearance
Rich amber with golden highlights and slow, viscous legs reflecting its higher bottling strength.

Aroma
Welcoming aromas of dried fruit, caramel, and toasted nuts lead, followed by hints of sea breeze, malt sweetness, and subtle spice. Notes of sherry-soaked raisins and light oak emerge with time.

Palate
Full-bodied and rounded. Sweet toffee and sultanas unfold into layers of roasted nuts, gentle spice, and soft oak tannin. A delicate coastal salinity weaves through the malt core, adding freshness and balance without overt smoke.

Finish
Long and gently warming, with lingering dried fruit richness, soft spice, and a subtle maritime note that fades cleanly.
