Campari bitters were invented in 1860 by Gaspare Campari in Novara, Italy as a result of his experimentation with new drinks. His recipe has been kept a closely guarded secret and to this day only a tiny handful of people in charge of production know the ingredients beyond alcohol and water.
Today, Campari has established itself worldwide as a prominent cocktail ingredient featuring as an essential component of the Negroni and the Garibaldi.
