Description

Description:

This is a flagship Rioja made in a very traditional style, with long ageing in both oak and bottle before release, which gives the wine a fully developed and highly integrated character from the outset. Marques de Murrieta focuses on patience here, allowing the wine to evolve slowly, so it arrives with a strong sense of balance and completeness rather than youthful energy. The 2011 vintage was warm and structured, and that combination shows in the way the wine holds its shape, with ripeness present but fully controlled. Compared to younger Rioja, the fruit feels more settled and less immediate, sitting within the structure rather than leading it.

Across the palate, the wine moves in a calm and continuous way, with no sharp edges or sudden shifts, as the fruit, oak, and savoury notes are already fully aligned. The progression feels steady and composed, with everything working together from start to finish. The influence of oak is completely integrated, no longer standing apart but forming part of the wine’s overall character, adding depth and subtle complexity without dominating. The texture is smooth and refined, with softened tannins that still give structure, allowing the wine to feel both polished and controlled. Overall, this is a mature and complete Rioja, where time has brought everything together into a balanced and cohesive whole, with the focus on harmony, depth, and long development rather than freshness.
