Description

Description:

This is one of Chile’s long established Cabernet Sauvignon wines, coming from the Maipo Valley, a region often associated with a more classic, structured style. Cousino Macul is a historic, family owned estate dating back to the 19th century, and this cuvee has been part of their range for decades, reflecting a consistent, traditional approach rather than a modern, heavily polished one. The wine is typically aged in French oak for around a year or more, which gives it a bit more depth and structure than entry level Cabernet, while still keeping the fruit at the centre. The style sits somewhere between New World ripeness and Old World restraint, aiming for balance rather than weight. It doesn’t rush forward in the glass, instead settling into itself, with the fruit and structure appearing together rather than in separate layers. There is a clear sense of control, with the tannins holding everything in place without making the wine feel firm or heavy.

As it moves across the palate, the wine keeps a steady, even line, where ripe fruit, oak, and a light savoury edge stay closely aligned, giving a smooth and continuous feel rather than a strong build or shift. The texture is one of the key features, with firm but ripe tannins that give shape while still allowing the wine to feel polished and balanced. Overall, this is a classic Maipo Cabernet, showing both ripeness and structure in a straightforward, reliable way, with a style that feels composed, balanced, and easy to understand.
