Description

Description:

Discover the excellence of Hillside Syrah from Hawke's Bay-an exceptional single-varietal Syrah that embodies both depth and finesse. Sourced from gently north-facing slopes, this vineyard benefits from a warm microclimate moderated by cooling Pacific sea breezes just a kilometre away. The limestone and shell base of the site, once the home of Heipipi Pa, imparts unique minerality and character, while the hand-tended, dry-farmed vines draw out outstanding expressions of Syrah. Thoughtfully crafted with minimal intervention, this wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts before maturing in large-format old oak barrels, allowing the grandeur of the site and fruit to shine.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Pours with a deep, vibrant ruby hue, showcasing brilliant clarity and intensity in the glass-an immediate invitation to explore its complexity.

Nose:
An aromatic array of rose petals, wild red berries, and savoury grilled meats rises from the glass, creating a captivating and multifaceted bouquet. Subtle floral notes intermingle with the purity of fruit, underscored by a hint of earthy spice and maritime freshness.

Palate:
The palate is round and mouthfilling, driven by juicy red fruit flavours that are both expressive and elegantly restrained. Seamless integration of tannins adds structure and depth, while minimal oak influence ensures that the wine's varietal character and sense of place take centre stage. Layers of savoury complexity, floral overtones, and a touch of minerality reveal themselves with each sip.

Finish:
A firm tannic backbone extends the finish, delivering delicious persistence and ensuring exceptional ageing potential. The wine closes on a lingering note of red fruits and subtle spice, inviting another taste. Unveil the perfect partner for chargrilled bone-in ribeye, where the balanced structure and nuanced flavours elevate the dining experience.
