Description

Description:

This is one of Flagstone’s more expressive wines, built around Pinotage and designed to show both the intensity of the grape and the character of the Swartland. The fruit comes from dry-farmed bush vines grown in higher, exposed sites, which helps retain some freshness while still allowing full ripeness to develop. There is a natural depth to the wine that comes through early, but it doesn’t feel heavy or closed. Instead, it settles into a steady, grounded shape, where dark fruit and spice sit closely together, giving a sense of weight without excess. The style leans towards richness, but it is not pushed too far, as a subtle lift runs underneath, keeping everything in balance. As it opens, the darker tones broaden slightly, with the fruit becoming more rounded and integrated rather than more intense.

Across the palate, it moves in a continuous, even flow, where blackberry, plum, and a smoky edge remain aligned, supported by gentle oak and a light savoury note. The wine does not build in stages, instead holding a consistent line that makes it feel composed and complete. There is a quiet complexity running underneath, with hints of spice, chocolate, and herbs adding depth without interrupting the flow, which keeps the wine cohesive rather than layered. The texture is smooth but carries structure, with ripe tannins giving shape and length, allowing the wine to feel both full and controlled at the same time. Overall, this is a bold but balanced Pinotage, showing both the richness of the grape and a more refined, integrated side of the style, with a focus on flow, texture, and steady development rather than intensity alone.
