Full bodied reserve blend made from grapes produced from organic farming in the Cima Corgo area of the Douro Valley. The spirit used to fortify this port was also produced from organically grown grapes. This Reserve Port is made exclusively from organically grown grapes. Fonseca has over a decade of experience in organic viticulture in the Douro Valley and was one of the first port houses to develop and apply organic methods in its vineyards. Aged to maturity in oak vats, Fonseca's Terra Prima expresses the natural fruity richness of the traditional DouroValley grape variety.
"Terra Prima is the first organic port to be produced in the Douro. It was made in 2002 using fruit from a vineyard in the Pinhao Valley, following 10 years of experimentation in the district. Both the wine and the fortifying spirit have full organic certification. Very good it is too. It opens up with time in the glass to show plump, violet-scented berry and blackcurrant fruit, plus a liveliness and vibracy that few ports of a similar standard match, and a warm yet smooth finish".
