Glenfiddich Project XX is the 2nd expression in the distillery's Experimental Series. In the creation of this blend, Malt Master Brian Kinsman brought together twenty whisky experts from across the globe and invited them to select any cask of their choosing from Glenfiddich's Conval warehouse. These experts between them selected seventeen malts matured in bourbon barrels, two from sherry butts and one from a port pipe. These twenty were then expertly blended in the perfect ratio then bottled without chill filtration to form Project XX, an experiment not only in taste, but in whisky personality. The resulting blend is a deep gold in colour. On the nose, classic fruity notes are at the fore with apple blossom and juicy pear. Rich vanilla oak is balanced with golden sugar and a hint of liquorice. On the palate it is deep and mellow with a ripe summer fruit and candyfloss sweetness, underpinned by slightly unusual almond and cinnamon notes, and a hint of crisp tannin. The finish is long with a sweet oakiness. A unique expression requires a unique serve, and Glenfiddich's best minds have discovered that by placing a single flake of sea salt on your tongue before tasting it, the taste is heightened and the experience transformed.
