Glenmorangie 1998 is the eighth expression in the Grand Vintage collection. It hails from the time of the first cask experiments of Dr. Bill Lumsden. In 1998 he was appointed Director of Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie.

Matured in casks newly made for Glenmorangie and heavily charred. This was the first time Glenmorangie had used virgin casks. Some of those virgin casks were filled with previously matured whisky and others with Glenmorangie distillate.

To give Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1998 a wider range of aromas and deeper complexity, this vintage malt was married with whisky matured in Oloroso sherry casks. The edition was bottled with 43% vol.

Amber in colour. The nose is rich and mild, with some toffee, ripe fruits such as pears, plums, baked apples and a touch of oak. Aromas of sweet vanilla, fragrant mint and a mildly warm wave of fragrant incense follows. With a dash of water, the classic Glenmorangie citrus notes emerge with lemon, tangerine, sweet tobacco, hints of lavender and some ginger in the background.

Spicy on the palate, with vibrant fruity bursts with hints of chocolate, smooth butterscotch and a touch of sweet raisins and figs. Orange chocolate follows with some clove, ginger and aniseed.

The gentle, smooth finish has hints of roasted almonds, leather and dates.

The bottle come presented in a solid wood Glenmorangie branded box.
