Description

Description:

Rich gold colour. Gentle nose, showing nuts and grain sweetness and perhaps a little peat. Medium bodied, honeyed and smooth malty flavours, drier woody notes appear on the finish. Unique Selling Point: A blend of fine malt and grain whiskies, at its heart is pot still whisky produced at the refurbished Kilbeggan distillery. Kilbeggan is distilled twice, first at Cooley, the second distillation takes place in their 200 year old copper pot still at the original distillery. The new spirit is also matured at Kilbeggan in the original 18th century warehouses, it lies in ex-Bourbon casks for at least 3 years - often more - until it achieves the character the master blender requires. A blend of fine malt & grain, Kilbeggan dates from 1757, making it one of the oldest distilleries. Production Method: Kilbeggan dates back to 1757 on this site making it the oldest continuously licensed distillery in the world. The Kilbeggan Distillery, in Co. Westmeath, fell silent in 1957, it was purchased by the Cooley Distillery in 1988. Production restarted at Kilbeggan in 2007 after 60 years using a refurbished pot still last used at the in the 19th century. Made in 1802 by Millar & Sons, Dublin for the old Tullamore Distillery the still was used there until the 1890s. A similar shape to the original stills at Kilbeggan, it was rescued by Cooley from the silent Tullamore and refurbished.
