Description
Description:
Dessert Wine. Bright golden in colour with fresh green tinge. The richly aromatic nose displays candied orange peel, sundried peaches and whiffs of sandalwood. The palate is full and viscous with waves of white peach and pear flavours, restrained acidity and fine, nutty finish. Perfectly timed rain at the end of January was balm to the developing grapes. It positive influence on the quality of the Muscat de Frontignan raisins by preventing excessive berry shriveling, enabling full flavour development. The wine was released almost 4 years after harvest.
Background:
The historic vineyards were first planted in the late 1600s as part of the original Constantia estate, whose legendary sweet wines were celebrated in literature by Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Baudelaire. It was sought after by Napoleon, in his exile, and by the courts of Europe in the 18th and 19th century. Chosen for its soil of decomposed Table Mountain granite, and its cooling sea breezes from boththe Atlantic and Indian oceans, these vineyards provide the perfect terroir for premium winegrowing. Drink now or cellar long-term.The wine is bottled in asymmetrical 500 ml bottles, which are a reproduction of the hand-blown originals. Each bottle is presented in a branded box with a brochure containing the history of Constantia wine.
