Description

Description:

Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2014 is one of the world's most celebrated dessert wines, crafted in the historic Constantia Valley near Cape Town. Produced exclusively from Muscat de Frontignan, this naturally sweet wine continues a centuries-old tradition dating back to the late 17th century. Renowned for its elegance, balance, and remarkable longevity, Vin de Constance stands as a benchmark for unfortified sweet wines globally. The 2014 vintage captures the essence of the Constantia terroir, combining intense aromatic complexity with vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh and poised despite its richness.

The legacy of Vin de Constance stretches back to 1685, when vineyards were first planted on the slopes of the Constantiaberg. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Constantia wines became some of the most sought-after sweet wines in the world, adored by European royalty and literary figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Frederick the Great, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. Production eventually declined in the late 19th century following the phylloxera crisis, but the wine was revived by Klein Constantia in the late 20th century, restoring its legendary reputation. Today, Vin de Constance remains a symbol of South African winemaking heritage and one of the Cape’s most iconic wines. Unlike many sweet wines, Vin de Constance is unfortified and not botrytis-driven; instead, it is made from late-harvested Muscat grapes, some naturally raisined on the vine to achieve concentration and natural sweetness.
