Maker's Mark 46 was created by the popular demand of fans of Maker's Mark. Looking to create something new for the fans, Bill Samuels Jr. set to work with Master Distiller Kevin Smith and cooper Brad Boswell to experiment. Agreeing that wherever they might create should start with the classic Maker's Mark, the breakthrough was experiment #46 whereby ten seared French oak staves were added to a barrel before filling with finished Maker's Mark for further ageing. The result - A bold and complex, but approachable and easy-drinking bourbon, Maker's Mark 46. A rich amber colour, on the nose there are aromas of caramel, vanilla and toasted oak alongside some fruitier and floral notes. The sweet flavours on the nose remain present on the palate, with some butterscotch, cherry and chocolate hints. Much sweeter than many bourbons, with some similarities to a Scotch whisky. A long, sweet, slowly fading finish with lots of dessert and oak notes.
