Description

Description:

Ouzo 12 is one of Greece’s most celebrated anise spirits, with origins dating back to 1880 in Constantinople before production was firmly established in Piraeus, Greece. The name "12" is said to refer to Barrel No. 12, which was considered to have produced the finest, most aromatic distillate in the early days of the brand. Crafted through the distillation of alcohol with star anise, fennel, and a selection of Mediterranean herbs and seeds, Ouzo 12 reflects traditional Greek spirit-making methods. Bottled at 40% ABV, it offers a smooth yet expressive profile that has become synonymous with Greek hospitality and seaside dining culture.

Traditionally enjoyed diluted with chilled water or served over ice, Ouzo 12 develops its characteristic milky-white louche as essential oils are released. This transformation softens the alcohol strength while amplifying its aromatic complexity, making it a classic companion to meze dishes, seafood, and warm Mediterranean evenings.

Tasting Notes
Appearance
Crystal clear in the bottle, turning opaque and milky white when diluted with water due to the natural anise oils.

Aroma
Pronounced anise and fennel lead, supported by subtle notes of licorice root, fresh herbs, and a faint citrus lift.

Palate
Smooth and well-structured. Sweet anise dominates initially, followed by herbal complexity, gentle spice, and a clean, warming spirit backbone. Dilution enhances its softness and reveals additional layers of fennel and light peppery nuance.

Finish
Medium-long and refreshing, with lingering anise sweetness, soft herbal bitterness, and a clean, cooling fade.
