Produced using Caribbean-sourced rum and matured in Honduras, this expression is aged for five years in American oak (often ex-bourbon) casks under tropical conditions. The climate accelerates maturation, increasing extraction of oak compounds and concentrating flavour, while also allowing oxidation to round out the spirit. The rum is blended in small batches after aging, with a focus on achieving consistency while preserving the character developed in cask. Compared to lighter column-distilled rums, it leans toward a fuller and more rounded style, though still accessible. Oak plays a noticeable role, contributing sweetness and structure, while the base spirit retains a soft molasses-driven core.
A key part of its identity is its balance between approachability and depth. The five-year maturation introduces early signs of complexity - vanillin, caramelisation, and dried fruit notes—without moving into the heavier, more tannic territory of longer-aged rums. The result is a spirit that feels polished but not overly dense. It opens up well with a little time in the glass, where softer notes of fruit and spice become more apparent alongside the initial sweetness.
