Built as the flagship expression of the range, this rum is a blend of Central American distillates matured for 13 years in oak under tropical conditions. Aging in this environment accelerates extraction from the cask, concentrating compounds such as vanillin, lactones, and oxidised sugars, which contribute to its depth and texture. The blend is drawn from single casks and refined in small batches, with some releases incorporating elements of the original Pirate’s Grog recipe for added balance. The extended maturation allows the spirit to move beyond the lighter, more straightforward profile of younger rums, developing a fuller body and a more integrated structure. Oak influence is more pronounced, introducing both sweetness and tannin, while oxidation over time creates softer, rounded edges and more complex aromatic compounds.
Compared to shorter-aged expressions, the profile here shifts toward richness and refinement, with a noticeable interplay between wood, dried fruit, and subtle spice. Despite its depth, the blend is designed to remain smooth and accessible, avoiding excessive heaviness or bitterness. It benefits from time in the glass, where additional layers gradually emerge as the spirit opens.
