Description

Description:

Produced in the British Virgin Islands, this expression is part of the Pusser’s range, which is styled after the historic naval rum once issued to sailors of the Royal Navy. The 15 year old release represents a more mature and concentrated interpretation of that tradition, with extended ageing and a greater emphasis on depth and richness. The base rum is derived from molasses and produced using a blend of distillation methods. Column stills provide a clean and structured foundation, while pot still components contribute heavier congeners, adding weight and complexity. This combination is central to the traditional navy style, where richness and intensity are key characteristics.

Maturation takes place in oak casks, typically ex-bourbon barrels, over a minimum period of fifteen years. Tropical ageing conditions accelerate interaction between spirit and wood, increasing extraction of compounds such as vanillin, caramel, and tannins. Over time, oxidation contributes to the development of dried fruit, spice, and deeper, more integrated flavours. Compared to younger expressions, the influence of oak is more pronounced, and the spirit shows greater concentration. The longer ageing period reduces the presence of fresh distillate character, resulting in a smoother and more cohesive profile. Blending is used to achieve consistency, combining rums of similar age and style. The final spirit reflects a balance between pot still richness and column still refinement, with a structure that supports extended ageing.

The overall style is full-bodied and traditional, with a focus on molasses depth, oak influence, and a slightly robust character associated with navy rum.
