At 75.5 percent alcohol by volume (151 proof), it is designed for intensity, structure, and dilution rather than direct sipping. The base rum is molasses-derived, following a traditional Caribbean production model. Fermentation is controlled to produce a relatively clean wash, allowing the final profile to be shaped more by distillation, blending, and ageing than by heavy ester development.
Distillation uses a combination of pot still and column still methods. Pot still components contribute weight, richness, and deeper molasses character, while column still distillate provides balance and a more refined structure. This dual approach is central to the navy rum style, where robustness and integration are both required. Maturation takes place in oak casks, typically ex-bourbon barrels, under tropical conditions.
