Description

Description:

Produced in the British Virgin Islands, this expression represents the high-strength end of the Pusser’s range, styled after historic Royal Navy rum but bottled at overproof level. At 75.5 percent alcohol by volume (151 proof), it is designed for intensity, structure, and dilution rather than direct sipping. The base rum is molasses-derived, following a traditional Caribbean production model. Fermentation is controlled to produce a relatively clean wash, allowing the final profile to be shaped more by distillation, blending, and ageing than by heavy ester development.

Distillation uses a combination of pot still and column still methods. Pot still components contribute weight, richness, and deeper molasses character, while column still distillate provides balance and a more refined structure. This dual approach is central to the navy rum style, where robustness and integration are both required. Maturation takes place in oak casks, typically ex-bourbon barrels, under tropical conditions. Even though the spirit is bottled at high strength, ageing allows for the development of vanilla, caramel, and spice notes, as well as a degree of oxidative depth. The result is more structured than unaged overproof rums.

Blending is used to achieve consistency, combining different distillates and cask influences into a cohesive profile. The high bottling strength preserves flavour concentration and allows the rum to retain character when diluted or used in cocktails. Compared to standard strength navy rums, this expression is significantly more intense, with alcohol amplifying both sweetness and spice. It is commonly used in mixed drinks where strength is required, such as tiki cocktails, or diluted to open up its flavour profile. The overall style is powerful and traditional, with emphasis on molasses richness, oak influence, and high alcohol structure.

Tasting Notes
Nose:
Intense and bold, with molasses, dark sugar, and strong alcohol presence. Notes of caramel, spice, and light oak emerge beneath.

Palate:
Full and powerful, with toffee, treacle, and dark fruit. Spice and oak develop quickly, with a pronounced warmth due to the high strength.

Finish:
Long and hot, with lingering molasses, spice, and oak. A firm dryness remains, with sustained warmth and intensity.
