Developed as a modern spiced rum with a nod to traditional naval styles, this expression is based on Caribbean rum - primarily from Barbados and surrounding regions - before being infused with a defined blend of spices. Unlike many entry-level spiced rums, it is bottled at 40% ABV (sometimes higher in certain markets), giving it more intensity and structure. The production begins with a molasses-based rum that is column-distilled to create a clean base. Post-distillation, it is infused with a relatively focused spice mix, most notably vanilla and cinnamon, rather than a broad or overly complex botanical profile. This deliberate restraint gives it a recognisable and consistent identity, where sweetness and spice are balanced rather than layered excessively.
Historically, earlier versions were bottled at higher strength (around 47%), and the brand still retains a reputation for being slightly more robust than typical spiced rums. Compared to heavier navy rums, it is lighter and more accessible, but compared to many flavoured rums, it delivers a stronger spice presence and less overt sweetness. The profile is designed to stand up in mixed drinks, particularly with cola, but it also works in simple serves where its vanilla and spice can remain prominent.
