Description

Description:

The Ironstone Pressing GSM from d'Arenberg is a richly expressive, terroir-driven red blend that captures the wild character and rugged beauty of McLaren Vale, one of Australia's most celebrated wine regions. Combining Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvedre - three Mediterranean varieties historically used in great Southern Rhone wines - this blend is crafted with d'Arenberg's signature blend of creativity, authenticity, and respect for place. The result is a wine that feels both contemporary and soulful, offering depth, complexity, and exceptional versatility.

Inspired by the very geology that gives McLaren Vale its name, The Ironstone Pressing draws influence from the region's ironstone-rich soils - a terroir that fosters intensely coloured, fruit-rich grapes with firm structure and depth. These ironstone layers contribute mineral undertones and textural grip, giving the wine a distinctive sense of place and personality rarely found in more generic blends.

At d'Arenberg, winemaking is an art informed by decades of experience and an experimental spirit. The Ironstone Pressing is shaped by careful vineyard selection, gentle handling, and thoughtful oak integration, producing a wine that expresses both varietal purity and blended harmony.

Tasting Notes
Appearance:
Deep garnet red with ruby highlights-rich and vibrant in the glass.

Aroma:
Complex and alluring, opening with ripe red and black fruit-think blackberry, dark cherry, and raspberry coulis-woven with savoury spice, white pepper, and hints of violet, dried herbs, and subtle oak toast.

Palate:
Medium-to-full bodied with generous fruit intensity and fine structural grip. Flavours of black plum, mulberry, and juicy red berries are underpinned by layers of pepper spice, savoury earth, and tobacco leaf. The influence of McLaren Vale’s ironstone soils gives a subtle mineral thread and firm tannin structure, balancing richness with precision.

Finish:
Long and persistent, with a polished interplay of fruit, spice, and savoury complexity, leaving lingering flavours of dark fruit and gentle oak warmth.
