Produced in Spain by Familia Torres, this brandy is a long-established expression within the house range, reflecting Spanish brandy traditions adapted outside the Jerez region. Originally developed in the mid 20th century, it remains one of the most widely recognised examples of solera-aged Spanish brandy. The base spirit is distilled from wine made primarily from white grape varieties such as Parellada and Ugni Blanc. These grapes are selected for their relatively neutral aromatic profile and balanced acidity, providing a stable foundation for distillation. Both column stills and traditional pot stills are used, allowing for a combination of lighter and more characterful distillates.
Ageing takes place in American oak casks using a solera system, similar in principle to that used in sherry production. The casks are often seasoned with wine, contributing additional layers of flavour to the spirit. Through the solera process, younger brandies are gradually blended with older stocks over time, ensuring consistency while integrating different age components. The "10" designation refers to the average age of the spirit within the solera system rather than a strict minimum. Regular movement of spirit between cask levels encourages controlled oxidation and continuous interaction with the wood, promoting the development of compounds associated with dried fruit, spice, and oak. The climate of the Catalonia region, while less intense than southern Spain, still supports active maturation. This results in a balanced extraction of oak influence without excessive concentration.
Blending is a key stage in production, where different distillates and ages are combined to achieve the desired house style. Dilution with purified water brings the spirit to bottling strength, maintaining clarity and consistency. The overall profile is smooth and approachable, combining moderate sweetness with oak structure and a degree of oxidative character. It reflects a production philosophy focused on balance and reliability rather than extreme ageing or intensity.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Warm and expressive, with notes of dried fruit, raisin, and prune. Vanilla and toasted oak are present, alongside a light hint of spice.
