Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2012 is direct, refined and balanced. There are initial notes of white flowers on the nose, including jasmine, honeysuckle and vine flowers. This develops into fruitier nuances of apple, pear and peach. A touch of fresh sliced almond and frangipane completes the bouquet. To taste, the cuvée reveals more depth and complexity, with hints of dried apricot, hazelnuts, honey and sugar candy. The silky textures give the wine its personality, elegance and bold character. Aging has imparted further depth and power to the wine.
La Grande Dame is a tribute to Madame Clicquot and the wine is an reflection of the image of La Grande Dame herself. Madame Clicquot used her determination, intuition and vision to choose and aquire exceptional grand crus parcels with exceptional grapes. She firmly believed that Pinot Noir had the broadest range of expression and potential to create the best champagne. And it is Pinot Noir that demands the very finest expertise from the Cellar Master.
