Description

Description:

With age, this wine has moved well beyond its initial freshness and into a more settled, mature expression, where the structure has softened and the overall feel is broader and more relaxed, while still holding enough shape to keep everything in balance. The Pinot Noir influence is clear, giving the wine a deeper core and a slightly fuller presence than the standard rose style. The red fruit has shifted from fresh berry into something softer and more developed, with strawberry and raspberry taking on a more rounded, almost stewed character, while a gentle citrus note still lingers in the background, keeping the wine from feeling too heavy. The opening is calm and gradual, with the aromas building rather than presenting themselves immediately.

Across the palate, the wine moves in a smooth, continuous way, with less emphasis on structure and more on integration, as the fruit, acidity, and secondary notes sit closely together, creating a steady, flowing impression. The pastry, almond, and lightly toasted notes that come with age are now fully part of the wine, blending into the fruit and adding depth without standing apart, giving the wine a more complete and cohesive feel. The mousse has softened over time, becoming finer and more gentle, which adds to the overall smoothness and gives the wine a more relaxed texture. Overall, this is a mature and integrated expression, where freshness has eased into softness, and the wine is more about balance and development than energy or precision.

Background: The ultimate tribute to Madame Clicquot and Veuve Clicquot's time-honoured tradition of making Rose Champagne, La Grande Dame Rose is crafted in very limited quantities and only in exceptional years. Eight traditional Grand Crus from the villages of Verzy, Verzenay, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Ay, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger are blended together with a final addition of red wine from Bouzy. La Grande Dame Rose ages a minimum of eight years in Veuve Clicquot's Gallo-Roman chalk cellars to develop its characteristic intense aromas of dried fruit and vanilla.
