The 1931 range is released as a brand new offering every year, with a new recipe and new packaging, and they are intended to be collector's items for rum connoisseurs. The 4th edition represents the 2014 blend. The St Lucia 1931 4th Edition blend includes five column still rums aged in bourbon casks between 7 and 11 years, two column still rums aged in port casks for 9 years, a pot still/column blend aged 10 years in bourbon casks, four pot still rums aged in bourbon casks between 9 and 15 years, and most uniquely a rhum agricole (derived from sugar cane juice rather than molasses) ages 6 years in bourbon casks. On the nose, aromas of coffee, chocolate and vanilla with a distinctly more fresher, somewhat minty note from the rhum agricole. Hints of caramel, leather and tobacco, too. A tremendously complex aroma which can be enjoyed for a long time as you discover more flavours. On the palate, this is a truly distinctive rum. Flavours of tropical fruits, mango and citrus flavours join caramel, cinnamon and spices. A very long and layered finish.
