Laphroaig Quarter Cask is uniquely double-matured through the use of a technique long since forgotten by most distilleries. In the early 19th century, to transport whisky by mule or packhorse it would need to be transferred to much smaller "Quarter Casks". The size of the barrel had a profound effect on the whisky, with a greater surface contact with the wood and increased exposure to the air the malt would gain more oak influence and undergo faster maturation. Modern transportation has broadly eliminated the use of these casks, but Laphroaig has resurrected the tradition to bring you this bold new expression. On the nose are the classic Laphroaig and Islay aromas of peat smoke and briny maritime influence. A wooded sweetness and hints of coconut and banana. Full bodied on the palate, complex and smoky. Oak flavours are present from the small Quarter Casks and balanced well with sweeter notes of vanilla and syrup. A lingering, slightly smoky finish. The bottle will be presented in a sliding lid wooden box on a bed of Cream coloured SizzlePak® with your message presented on a gold gift tag. |
